Uno

Short explanation

During the first semester of the third year, I worked with Warre Hofmans for the Augmented Reality and Mobile App Development course to develop an application in Flutter, which uses Wikitude AR, to make the card game UNO accessible to colorblind people.

Uno is perhaps one of the most well-known board games. it is played by young and old, at cafes with the friends, ... Uno is strongly built on the colors of the cards. If someone cannot perceive these colors or experiences them differently due to a defect, they will not be able to participate in the game. People can help the person, but as a result the person will have to deal his cards. This, of course, takes away the excitement. With this project, we aimed to remove this group's limitation. This app will allow people to recognize the uno cards. The app will label the cards with their color. This way, the color of the card can be checked at any time.

We created some features that were necessary for us to allow colorblind people to play the game with the same experience as anyone else. For example, it starts with detecting the color of the cards on the table, what follows is checking if your card is playable on the card on the table, the number is not a problem for the color blind, only the color card becomes a difficult task. With this application, a “play” button is provided when it is playable. Also, in the application you have your own card deck, where you can add your card when you get one added or when you start the game. You can also cancel the add process if you accidentally clicked the button. And finally, you can play the cards you have just added to your deck by clicking the button, they will also be removed from your own deck.

Here is a video, in which everything is demonstrated.
